Tim's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Week #2

Posted by Tim

Listed below are my choices for who gets KICKED OUT of the RRHOF and who gets duly inducted in the TRRHOF for the years 1991-1996:

This is an easy one!

OUT (of the RRHOF) - Frank Zappa...GONE!!! I can't think of one Zappa song that I like or that became a notable hit! He's more well known for naming his children Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet, and Diva Muffin.

IN (to the TRRHOF)
- Three Dog Night...IN! 21  top 10 hits from 1969-76, 10 top 10 hits, 3 #1 hits (Mama Told Me Not to Come, Joy to the World, Black and White).

How could anyone disagree with this? I'm putting Three Dog Night in my TRRHOF! No matter how much you might like Frank Zappa, you know I'm right about this!

Chime in below with your thoughts! I can take some constructive criticism!

Here's the link to help you double check the Hall of Fame inductees for yourself!

Tim's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Week #1

Can we trust the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
to this man?
"CoolVibe" Tim
Posted by Tim:
First things first, Thanks for listening to our CoolVibe program sponsored, of course by Vicksburg Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Please keep them in mind when you're in need of a vehicle!

Welcome to the first installment of Tim's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (aka TRRHOF) my view of who should be in and who should be OUT! This idea has been on my mind for a long time! After many years of being outraged at some of the performers who have been inducted and equally outraged about some of the performers who have NOT been inducted, I have decided to take action!!!  ;-)  I am busy assembling my own Hall of Fame list of performers and I am going to boot several current inductees right out of the RRHOF who have absolutely no business being there! I have confidence in CoolVibe listeners and believe that many of you will agree with the performers I plan to bounce, including performers that I plan to add.

The real Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) consists of several inductee categories including Performers, Early Influences, Lifetime Achievement as well as others. For our purposes in this exercise of fun and frolic,  I will only be addressing the Performer category. The 2016 inductee class marks the 31st year of inductees.

Come Back Each Week
Each week, I will post five-year periods of inductees revealing who stays and who goes (from TRRHOF).  You'll see over the next several weeks that whenever I bounce a current inductee, I'll add one of my own inductees who have been completely neglected over the years and worthy of being enshrined in the RRHOF!

At the conclusion of my multi-week evaluations, the list of neglected performers will open up to all of you! Think of some suggested performers for induction into the TRRHOF! These should be performers who in your opinion, have been long overlooked and deserve to be in the real RRHOF! So put on your thinking cap and feel free at ANY time to comment below or make your suggestions for whom you think would be worthy inductees OR you can e-mail your suggested inductees if you wish, to me at: coolvibe101@gmail.com. Needless to say, I will, take them into consideration for our final list!

Always keep in mind, Tim's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a way to have some good fun and spark some comments and conversation about our favorite subject: Rock & Roll and the TRRHOF! I hope you'll enjoy it all in good cheer and not take it too seriously! (Hint: I have a tremendous sense of humor, so work with me!) Case in point; Dennis is my official "Consultant"; Ha Ha!  Welcome to the conversation and fun!

For your convenience and reference, here is the official RRHOF web page listing the inductees by year. Double check to make sure that any inductee you might suggest is not already enshrined  in the Cleveland museum:

============================================================
And now, my thoughts about the 1986 thru 1990 list of inductees:

The RRHOF inductees during these first five years are all good to go as I see it. I'll let them stay!!! See if you don't agree with me! Click on the link above and take a look for yourself. Is someone there unworthy? Let me know!

Coming Soon!!! Tim's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Posted by Dennis:

Our friend, Tim has been on a rampage lately! He gets a little bull-headed about the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" topic. I have seen him when he goes off on some of the current inductees enshrined in the Cleveland museum. I have also seen him go ballistic over anyone and everyone he believes has no business in the Hall of Fame OR those not in there who he thinks should be. Trust me. It's not pretty. To give you an idea, just imagine a toddler crying in a play pen. Yeah! Then it hit me. What better place for Tim to vent his frustrations than right here in the Vicksburg Chrysler CoolVibe blog! He's assembling all his RRHOF grievances as I write this, so with that in mind:

Be sure to stop back here soon for Tim's version of who should have been in there a long time ago and who has no business being ensconced in Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Guaranteed
to be
a good read!

Favorite Music

Message Authored by Dennis,

Someone asked me the other day what my favorite kind of music is. Boy, that's a loaded question!
Thanks for asking!!!

I can recall people thumbing through my old record collection and commenting that there was no rhyme or reason to my collection. Jazz, rock, soul, easy listening, Latino, Brazilian... My favorite kind of music is shamelessly eclectic. No recognizable pattern of musical taste! Actually, there IS a method to my crazy musical tastes. Most everything in my personal record collection has one thing in common: a beautiful combination of outstanding melody, harmony or beat. As long as the music hits me hard with a quality mixture of these musical components, I'm happy. Some artists in my collection (listed below in no particular order) earned a special place in what they achieved. Artists such as Todd Rundgren, who I just saw recently at the State Theatre, are W-A-A-AY up the list of profoundly great musicians. I've been huge on Todd since his days with his 60s group called Nazz. You wanna talk about an artist who can write and perform about any kind of music. Todd is the man, I can tell you that much!

Other favorite legacy artists on the "Dennis Playlist" include Laura Nyro, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Earth Wind & Fire, Traffic, War, The Beatles, The Who, Marvin Gay, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Wonder, Ten Years After, Savoy Brown, the pre-Buckingham-Nicks versions of Fleetwood Mac...and last but certainly not least, just about anything composed by Burt Bacharach!

My favorite artists (off the top of my head), who gained fame after the end of the "Oldies" era include Basia, Sade, Eliane Elias, Martin Taylor, Ivan Lins and Jane Monheit. I graded music of the 80s, 90s and beyond very hard. But I'll admit, there are a few groups and artists who did a mighty fine job.

Did I just confess earlier that I like Brazilian music? Well, if you like music with a great beat sprinkled with gorgeous chord changes, melodies and harmony, trust me, you're a candidate for appreciating Brazilian music! I have some outstanding examples if you're ever interested in knowing more about it.

And one last category: Oldies music! How could I ever exclude it? I can't! That's where the memories are!

I was weened on the Oldies and so was Tim! In fact, Tim loves his Oldies music so much, that often times while we record our show, Tim has been known to dance in his chair and flail his arms around when we preview our songs!!! He truly is an Oldies die-hard!!!

Do you have a variety of musical favorites??? I'll be the first to proclaim...there's no accounting for taste! Feel free to comment with YOUR favorite music!

Maurice White RIP

Maurice White
Whenever the subject of all-time favorite groups comes up, I've always maintained that Earth Wind & Fire should be on the high end of anyone's top 25 list. Even if their music isn't your favorite kind, no one can say they didn't have "IT". When I say "IT", I'm talking about music composition, arrangements, production and performance. Their melodies were and always will be infectious. Their production and arrangements are as good as any band has done to date. So carefully executed. Maurice White was the man behind the band and has earned every award he's received. The group owned the 1970's and 80's and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 along with Eric Clapton; The Lovin' Spoonful; Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor.

Maurice White has a local connection to West Michigan as he worked with singer/songwriter, Wade Flemons a Battle Creek native in a group called the Salty Peppers. Shortly after that group, Maurice went on to put together Earth Wind & Fire.

Personally, I played the grooves off my EWF albums and later cassette tapes. What a truly great group and what a great talent Maurice White was; to create a rhythmical sound and musical style that absolutely no one had ever done before. Rest in Peace, Maurice and THANKS for so many wonderful songs!

STUFF WE NEVER GET AROUND TO FEATURING!

How many of us have put off stuff we know we need to do? The answer is EVERYONE! Well, Tim and I are no different than anyone else. I have some house projects that are half done. My bathroom tile is almost done. I just need to grout it and replace the trim and baseboard. And that's only one project! I won't bore you with the rest of the honey-do's!!! Know what I'm sayin??? I'm sure Tim has numerous things he needs to do around his house, too! And so it goes.

Well, the same thing happens to me and Tim when it comes to CoolVibe tunes. Between the two of us, we  have tons of oldies tunes that we've been meaning to bring to your attention on the CoolVibe program, but we never get around to featuring them. For example, I came across an old doo wop song from an obscure group from the latter part of the 1950s and I have to tell you...I think it's one of the greatest doo wop songs I've ever heard. And I never get around to playing it primarily because I can't find any information on the group! What a ridiculous excuse for not featuring a song. I guarantee you'd love the song. And that's just one song! Tim and I have found many songs where we find very little info about the artist. That's just the way it is. Some groups get together and record a couple of songs and then POOF! Gone!

My New Years resolution is to get those tunes on the Vicksburg Chrysler CoolVibe Show. Maybe Tim and I can do a special segment with maybe a week of Tim's oldies songs that he never gets around to featuring and then I'll do the same....FIVE SONGS DENNIS HAS BEEN MEANING TO PLAY BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT!!!

There! I put in writing!!! Okay, that's it! I'll tell Tim to get them ready regardless of whether we find info on the artist or not!!! Just a couple of other things. I promise they will be really cool tunes...songs you may very well recall once you hear them! I promise they'll all pass the "Dennis and Tim" Test!!! You know about that test don't you? It's gotta be either really good...and if it's not, it's gotta bring back some great memories!!! That's what it's all about, right???

You know maybe, just maybe YOU have some rare oldies tunes. Don't hesitate to reply to any of these posts with some obscure oldies tune of your liking. We will do everything we can to get that song on the air with Kudos to you!!!

The Great Oldies Tunes You May Have Missed!

Greetings CoolVibe Fans and Happy New Year!

I confess. I absolutely LOVE unearthing songs from the Oldies era (50s, 60s thru mid 70s). Especially ones  that I think most people simply missed (like the one above). There are truly some great old songs out there. For example, a while back, we featured a great song from British blues man, John Mayall titled "Room To Move". In my circles back in the 70s, it was a fairly popular song. The album sold quite well but it wasn't a widely known song, but that's understandable because it was never released as a single. Hey, let me tell you something. That's OUR loss! Room To Move is a great tune and regardless of whether you remember hearing it back in the 70s, take it from me, you'd love hearing it - even if you never heard it before.

See what I mean? There is practically an unlimited supply of great oldies music that you may have missed - and that's okay! Tim and I have wide and varied taste in our generation's music and we're delighted to dig them up and play them for you! Tim has an uncanny way of finding rarely heard oldies tunes from the 50s and 60's while I'm equally versed in 60s music and have a slight upper hand finding those rare 70's tunes. So don't be surprised when the next time you tune into the Vicksburg Chrysler CoolVibe, you hear a song you've never heard before. We do the work and you can enjoy the songs, wherever you are! Have a great old tune you haven't heard in a long time? Even if all you can recall is a part of the song or maybe a part of the lyrics, let us know. right here or you can email us at, coolvibe101@gmail.com. We consider it a clue. We'll do everything we can to solve the mystery!
